Working with people, organisations and communities to reduce knife harm.
Our Story
Let’s Be Blunt was created in response to a reality many people hear about, but few expect to experience first-hand.
In 2024, our founder, Leanne, was delivering wellbeing events for children and families in Southport. These sessions were focused on connection, creativity and emotional wellbeing. During one such event, that environment was disrupted by a knife crime attack.
The impact was immediate and lasting - not only for those present, but for families, professionals, and the wider community. It highlighted how knife harm reaches far beyond the criminal justice system, affecting everyday spaces not typically associated with violence.
In the aftermath, one question became central
What could reduce risk before harm occurs?
From that question, Let’s Be Blunt was formed.
Rather than focusing solely on responses after incidents, Let’s Be Blunt takes a proactive, prevention-led approach. Our work focuses on everyday environments - particularly the home and education settings - where risk already exists but is rarely addressed.
Kitchen knives are present in almost every household, making them one of the most accessible and overlooked contributors to knife harm. By encouraging safer design, responsible storage and practical risk reduction, Let’s Be Blunt supports changes that are simple, evidence-informed and effective.
Our work brings together lived experience, forensic research and community insight to support institutions, local authorities and organisations tin taking meaningful action.
Let’s Be Blunt is trauma-informed and rooted in lived experience, with a clear focus on creating safer norms through practical prevention - reducing risk before harm occurs, rather than responding after the fact.
